Shilshole Bay SUP Tour

Covid-19 Notice – We follow current Phase guidance. Capacity: 1-4 people. Masks required on shore, social distancing on land and shore.

The Tour

The Shilshole Bay SUP or kayak tour launches from the Ballard Elks beach below the Locks. We have several routes to explore per conditions and group skill level.

Experienced paddlers may paddle to Discovery Park’s historic West Point Lighthouse and see epic views of Mt Rainier, the Olympic Mountains, Alki Point, Vashon and Bainbridge Islands and a glimpse of downtown Seattle.

Or closer to our put-in, we’ll paddle to the Ballard Locks alongside quaint waterfront homes, under a 100+ year old bascule train bridge within close-up view of the Locks which was built in 1916.

Alternatively, we can paddle through Shilshole Bay Marina past hundreds of sailing and motor boats, see marine life, seals and an active live-a-board culture.

You’ll also be greeted by our local friendly harbor seals, marine life underfoot and sea birds. If the salmon are running up the Locks, you may see California sea lions.

Beginners will be given basic SUP training. Those seeking a refresher will be given an into SUP at the beginning of the tour.

Skill Prerequisites: Beginner and above.

Minimum: Beginner level. Beginners or those seeking a refresher will be given a short lesson at the beginning of the tour. Must have basic swimming skills.

Experienced paddlers will travel further and access more technical water upon request.

“I’ve had many SUP, surfing (and beyond) lessons world-wide but I haven’t found an expert in the area that compares to Rob’s level of quality experience, competency and teaching skills. Rob emphasizes safety first and caters to each individuals personal learning style in delivering quality instruction to paddlers of all levels. He truly went above and beyond and has set the bar extremely high for a business model that I hope to mirror. I will definitely return to him for further training.”

“I took the Shilshole Bay Tour today with Rob, it was great! Rob brought all the gear and attire which made it very easy for me. Rob is a very thorough teacher. He explained everything there was to know from the board to the rules of the water and the hazards that can come with the sport. We spotted a few seals which was a highlight for meToday was my 3rd time on the board but the first time with Rob. I truly learned a lot but want more so I’ll be signing up for another tour shortly.”

“Last minute booking while I was in town for a wedding. Rob was super accommodating and extremely knowledgeable in all things SUP. His understanding of the currents, wind/weather, water traffic etc. made for a fun and safe adventure. Not only did he know the area quite well, he also gave tips on efficient paddling. Overall it was a great experience that I recommend and will return in the future.”
