Race Training –  Races 2 to 6 miles

  • Stroke analysis for your forward stroke so you paddle smarter vs harder
  • How to read water which will give you an advantage over other paddlers
  • How to start, stay stable and make your mark in the first few feet of the race
  • Get smarter skills for buoy turns to blow away your competition
  • Perfect your pivot and cross bow turns
  • How to stay stable in rough water at the start and with boat wakes, wind and reverb
  • Doing a downwind race at Maliko or Hood River? Learn how to prep for these runs.
  • How to read water for more successful racing and paddling on Shilshole Bay.  
  • Rough water paddling skills – Paddling over boat wakes, wind waves and in current. 
  • Race hydration, nutrition and cross training tips.  

Expedition and Distance Race Course with Karl Kruger and Rob Casey on Orcas Island – April 26-28th

Skill Prerequisites: Intermediate to Advanced

You are relaxed standing on a board, know how to paddle straight, have directional control, and can fall off and get back on your board. Some experience paddling with boat wakes or wind waves. Contact me for a SUP Basics 1 or 2 class if you don’t think you have these skills or would like to improve your basic skills.

Class Details:

Class Size: 1 – 4 People.

Location: Ballard Elks beach on Shilshole Bay in Seattle.

This class can also be taught at a location of your choice for the same cost in Seattle. Add additional travel fees (and/or ferry fees) for classes outside of Seattle.

Duration: 3 hours. Learn at your own pace.

Schedule: Private lessons only.  Contact me to set up a lesson that fits your schedule.

Instructor to Student Ratio: 1:4 or 2:4, Video playback may be used.

Instructor Follow-up: Rob will send you a summary of skills you learned in class and upon request stroke analysis video . He’ll stay in touch with you after class to assist with finding paddling equipment and offer tips on where to paddle in the NW.


Group Rate: 199 per person. 2 – 4 students. Rental gear free with class cost / 179 if you have your own gear.

Individual Rate (1-1): 299. Rental gear free with class cost / 279 if you have your own gear.

Alumni/Repeat Classes: $25 off per person.
