SURF CAMP ON THE
WASHINGTON COAST

In two days you'll learn how to read waves, determine which beach is best for your skill level, and how to catch and successfully ride waves. Surfing takes time to master and water time with our expert instruction will help you get there. 100% of our students catch waves on their first day. Our individualized personable instruction will allow you to learn at your own pace with friendly professional instructors. Instructor to student ratio 1:3. We teach to your skill level and will break the class into two groups for varying skill levels.

Stay in cabins or camp next to beautiful wilderness beachesA great escape!  Lots of beach walks, bicycling, scenic drives and local hikes on Shi Shi Beach in nearby Olympic National Park for family while you surf. If coastal conditions are not adequate for the outer coast, we'll hold it on the more protected beaches of the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

You'll learn how to pick the right beach for your skill level, how to paddle out, choose waves, how to turn, wipeout safely and turn around standing up. We'll also discuss surf etiquette, surf equipment and how to find and predict waves. At the end of the camp you'll have enough skills and confidence to surf on your own.

Surf Camp Daily Schedule:

  • 7:00am - Wave check with instructors. If the campground waves aren't suitable we'll scout together for more suitable waves.
  • 7:30am - Discussion of surfing basics, surf etiquette, safety and equipment.
  • 8:00 - 10:00am - Entering the water, learn how to paddle out, find the line-up, and start to look for waves for your skill level.
  • 10:00am - We'll take a break and discuss what you've learned thus far.
  • 10:30am - Get back in the water to work on turning and anything you want to improve from your morning session.
  • Noon - Lunch.
  • 1:00-3:00pm - Re-entering the water, we'll continue to work on your new skills and learning how to catch waves easier.
  • 3:00pm - Break to discuss the afternoon thus far.

"SBP's surf camp provided a variety of truly awesome experiences including taking my surf skills to the next level and stunning coastal paddling adventures when the waves were too small. Rob will teach to your level while challenging you to the next. Safety and etiquette are also taught so students become good SUP stewards in the community." Brittany Foxley, 2016
