SUP Surf Camps

2014 Surf Camp

Learn to Paddle Surf a SUP on the Beautiful Washington Coast.

In two days you’ll learn how to read waves, determine which beach is best for your skill level, and how to catch and successfully ride waves. Surfing takes time to master and water time with our expert instruction will help you get there. 100% of our students catch waves on their first day.

Our individualized personable instruction will allow you to learn at your own pace with friendly professional instructors. Instructor to student ratio 1:3.

We teach to your skill level and will break the class into two groups for varying skill levels.

Stay in cabins or camp next to beautiful wilderness beachesA great escape!  Lots of beach walks, bicycling, scenic drives and local hikes in the nearby Olympic National Park for family while you surf.

If coastal conditions are adequate for the camp, we’ll hold it on the the more protected beaches of the Strait of Juan de Fuca, closer to Seattle.

Sample Schedule for Hobuck Beach / Neah Bay:

Day 1 – After introductions and signing of waivers, we’ll discuss surf beaches, types of waves, safety in the surf zone and surfer’s etiquette as well as surf forecasting and marine weather. We’ll also talk about surf gear and clothing.

After a short break, we’ll discuss how to paddle out into waves safely, pick and catch waves, footwork and keeping an eye on everyone in the surf zone. Entering the water, we’ll show you how to paddle out over waves while staying clear of incoming surfers. Finding our line-up, we’ll show you how to look for and choose the best waves for the best results. We’ll practice accelerating, varying your paddling cadence, easy turns in the surf, catching and riding your first waves while applying directional control. After riding your first wave, we’ll show you how to turn around while standing and paddle back out to the line-up all while keeping others in the surf in your view.

Taking a break every hour, we’ll review what you’ve learned and how to improve your performance. During the last few hours of the day, you’re free to surf on your own while our guides assist where needed.
